Game On: Wolfenstein Enemy Territory

08 Oct

Wolfenstein : Enemy Territory is a first person shooter(FPS) action multiplayer game created by Splash Damage Corp. based upon reaction time , skills and strategy gaming. Its more like the other FPS games available these days in the market but what makes is different is its various Soldier classes , better graphics, kickass game modes and experience which you gain in the game.Enemy Territory was originally planned as an add-on for Return to Castle Wolfenstein, but soon became it’s own game, a separate entity with full single player, multiplayer, AI opponents and teammates. W: ET is a free, stand-alone multiplayer only product, which means it’s for online play only, but all you need is what you download.Featuring multiplayer support for up to 32 players, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is the ultimate test of communication and teamwork on the battlefield.

Wolfenstein Enemy Territory

There are basically two teams : Allies and Axis (derived from WW II) .There are six officially released maps (North Africa Campaign: Gold Rush, Siwa Oasis, and Seawall Battery; Europe Campaign: Rail Gun, Wurzburg Radar, and Fuel Dump ).On each map, the offense needs to complete a certain set of objectives within a limited amount of time. The defense needs to keep the offense from completing objectives until time runs out. Some objectives may be optional, and some objectives can be carried out by either team.

There are some special classes of soldiers with different skills and strengths. Your skills will also improve as you advance in the game gaining experience called XP in game by your kills.  They are :

  • Soldier : T he soldier is the only class that can use heavy weapons. They are: mortar, portable machine gun (MG42), flamethrower, and bazooka/Panzerfaust(sniper rifle).
  • Medic : The medic has the unique ability to drop health packs, as well as revive fallen players with a syringe.
  • Engineer : The engineer is the only class which comes equipped with pliers, which can be used to repair vehicles, to arm/defuse (dynamite or land mines), or to construct (command posts, machine-gun nests, and barriers).
  • Field ops : The field ops is a support class which has the ability to drop ammo packs for other players, as well as call air strikes  and artillery strikes .
  • Covert ops : The covert ops is the only class which can use the scoped FG42 automatic rifle, the silenced Sten submachine gun , and a silenced, scoped rifle.

CUSTOMIZE

If you donot have a powerful PC like me then you might find the game somewhat laggy i.e. frames will appear while you play. This is due to low FPS (frames per second). Dont worry, you just go to the game console by pressing ~(tilde) key in the game and:

(If you want to  play at lowest resolution).

set r_customHeight “480″

set r_customWidth “640″

set r_mode “-1″

Be sure that the “Source” option at the top of the screen is set to “Internet” or you will not see any servers unless you are running your own “Local” server, or you have “Favorite” servers saved. The “Source” can be toggled by clicking on it. . Enable PunkBuster (anti-cheat software), select the server of your choice and then click “Join Server”.

B) Host Game: Through this menu you may choose to run either a “Listen Server” or a “Dedicated Server”. A Listen Server will allow you play in the game while also hosting the game. While running a Dedicated Server you will only host a game. Before running either server type, you should be sure that you have the available bandwidth to support the number of players you set your server to allow in the game.

C) Replays: This is where you will play back any “demos” or “replays” which you have recorded while playing Enemy Territory. Simply select a demo from the scrolling menu and click on the “View” option to watch your replay. You may configure a key to record your replays in the “Options -> Controls” menu.

TEAM-PLAY

JOINING  A SERVER

This is where things start to get good! Upon joining a server you will arrive at the “Limbo Menu” by pressing L where you can read the level objectives, select a player class, select a team, and get your weapons. Once you’ve joined a team, if you’ve forgotten any of the level objectives you can check them on the “Command Map” (the “G” key on your keyboard). The Command Map can also be used to locate teammates and check the status of objectives.

GAME MODES

2009-08-07-222422-fueldump

The various available game modes will determine how the game will be played, and depending on which type of server you joined you will be faced with one of the following mission types:

  • Objective: Instead of playing an entire Campaign, teams will fight and accomplish objectives on single maps. The first team to complete all of their objectives within the time limit wins.
  • Stopwatch: Race against the clock to complete objectives in the shortest time possible. At the end of the round the teams switch sides and must attempt to beat their opponent’s time from the previous round.
  • Campaign: Teams compete throughout a series of maps, with Skills and Ranks being carried over to each level of the Campaign. This is the game mode where you get to really watch those hard earned Skills and Ranks build up!
  • Last Man Standing: Its a Deathmatch! In LMS your only objective is to fight to the death. You only have one life, so you may want to stay in healing range of your team’s Medics! Once you die you will be able to watch the rest of your team in action.

This is all.Rest you will learn after you play the game and evolve accordingly.

Go!  get your clans together , storm the front and Give them Hell….!!!

Nice overview of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. It’s an older game by now, but still fun to play.

You might want to add in something about ETPro though. Seeing as that’s the (only) version that’s played in the clanscene and it changes the gameplay significantly. And only for the better I might add.

In fact, I’d recommend any beginning player to get straight into playing on ETPro servers only: it’s more balanced, it’s more fun and there will be better players to compete against. Plus you’re not going to get accepted into any halfway decent clan with just ET-vanilla/shrubmod skills.
