Fuduntu 14.11 Released

Fuduntu is a light weight and fun Linux distribution that earns its name by its design to fit somewhere in-between Fedora and Ubuntu. It is designed to be aesthetically pleasing, and is optimized for Netbook and other portable computers. The quarterly installation i.e Fuduntu 14.11 is now available for downloads.  As with all Fuduntu releases, this release continues the tradition of small incremental improvements.  It is important to note that existing Fuduntu users will roll up to this version through the normal update process, and do not need to download or install from this media to benefit from this release.  This release is considered the first official Fuduntu “rolling release” ISO.

Cool Terminal Alternatives for Ubuntu

Talking about Terminal, we have been working on the same default terminal for a long time. Why not change it a little. Keeping this in mind, we have selected two cool alternatives to replace the default Ubuntu terminal for your basic to advanced operations. Both of them are unique in their own way and serve the main stream purposes as well as some special purposes. These two are basically terminal emulators and are aimed mainly at increasing usability of gnome terminal in Ubuntu.

Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal has been released and the servers were really busy last night. We have covered different aspects of Ubuntu 11.04 and its default interface Unity so far. Now we think its time for some more eyecandy stuff for Unity. Talking of Unity, it is itself a great interface with cool looks and enhanced usability. We dont care about what people say but we believe that Unity is the ‘Next Big Thing’. People always resist to adopt something new but after hey get familiar with it, they very well accept it and yet love it. Kubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal Final Released

Kubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal, the KDE 4.6.2 desktop that brings new stunning look and feel to the table has been released. This release is greeted with KDE 4.6 and many other usability improvements to Ubuntu. This release of Kubuntu has come up with a great UI, an awesome default wallpaper and many other feature improvements.

Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal Final Released

After months of development, Unity is ready for mainstream usage as Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal stable version has been released. We have come a long way from alpha testing to public betas and now the final release. We have seen many important applications coming up like Firefox got upgraded to 4.0 and came out to be a big success, Banshee made its way to Ubuntu as a default Media player, LibreOffice 3.3.2 now servers a default Office suite or Ubuntu lovers and much more.

Cairo Dock 2.3 for Ubuntu

Cairo Dock – An awesome dock for Ubuntu desktops has been released. As we have already discussed in our previsou post ‘Ultimate Docks for Ubuntu‘, Cairo GLX dock is a dock manager that uses Cairo / OpenGL to render graphics (many in correlation with Compiz) with full hardware acceleration. It’s fully configurable and fully customizable and can be used as a taskbar too. You can easily add applets in the dock or as a desklet. So, its a must have for eyecandy lovers.

Install

Open the terminal and type this -

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cairo-dock-team/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cairo-dock

and done. Now close the terminal and fireup Cairo dock from Applications>System Tools>Cairo Dock and enjoy.

Unity 2D on Ubuntu

Ubuntu Unity is a desktop experience designed for efficiency of space and interaction. It maximizes usability and minimizes complexity. Everything is available just 1 click away and almost everyone enjoys working with it. But the problem is, you cant get Unity working everytime on your computer because it needs 3D effects enabled by-default. That means … those who are having low config computers, cant run Unity ? No, Unity 2D is here to the rescue. Unity 3D as we know is going to be the default interface for Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal. If you dont want to use Unity 3D or you are unable to use it, then just get yourself Unity 2D with Gnome in parallel.
