True Combat ELITE

23 Jun

TrueCombat:Elite (TC:E) by ” Team Terminator “  & Studio Groove Six is a modification to first-person shooter Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. Wolfenstein Enemy Territory is based on World War II & weapons and techniques of that time , TC:E modernizes all aesthetic elements of the game while preserving the fast-paced first person shooter style of gameplay compared to my favourite Counter Strike by Valve Corporation. Also in common with Enemy Territory, True Combat : Elite is cross-platform free software with clients for Linux,Windows & Mac OS X. TC:E remains popular and components of the game including maps and weapons are under continuous development .

TC:E puts you into the role of elite mercenary soldier in the conflicts of two internationally operating forces. Sounds cool ,isnt it :)

Game Modes :-

  1. Objective -Each player is deployed(spawns) once per round. As terrorist,  the main aim is to plant a bomb at a specified bombsite and prevent enemy from defusing it till it detonates or to kill all enemies , all this inside a specified timeline . As a special operative, one aims to prevent the terrorists from achieving their goals by killing all the terrorists or defusing their bomb.
  2. Body Count -Deployment comes in 10 second increments. Players that have been killed prior to a deployment are continuously redeployed. Yes, you can call it a deathmatch (kick ass).
  3. Capture The Flag – CTF simulates the game of capture the flag: teams try to bring a flag back to their base from across the map. Unlikely R-obj (known as Reinforced Objective) the goal is to capture as many areas (marked by flags) as possible before the time limit, or the elimination of either team.

Gameplay :-

The gameplay is multiplayer & entirely online .

Steam Platform for Ubuntu

25 Apr

With the release of native Steam platform for Mac OS by Valve Corporation, there are a lot of rumours about Valve’s Steam platform for linux. However, there has been no proper confirmation of this from the Valve Corporation. Although, there is a native Linux version of the Half-Life Dedicated Server available.

But, for the time being , we will keep playing steam games on linux. How? The answer itslelf is Playonlinux.

PlayOnLinux (POL) is a tool to help Linux users run games and programs for Windows on Linux, via the use of (as a front-end for) Wine. When you install applications with Wine all your file are saved in the same prefix. This maybe isn’t a problem, until you realize a file in one program is messing up another program. PlayOnLinux uses different prefixes for all applications, so you can have specified configurations, settings and file-trees for each program.

One “easy” method of installing Steam is with Play On Linux.

Installing POL:

First download the latest version of POL here .

Or

Follow these steps to install via Terminal:

17 Feb

A retro multiplayer shooter

Teeworlds is a free online multiplayer game, available for all major operating systems. Battle with up to 16 players in a variety of game modes, including Team Deathmatch and Capture The Flag. You can even design your own maps!

Basically, it’s a 2D sidescrolling shooter. The game is very easy to host and only 5MB in size. The great thing is that it is open-source and cross-platform. :)

It isn’t as easy as you might be thinking. But the game is real fun. A must try for everyone!

Ubuntu users can simply install by sudo apt-get install teeworlds teeworlds-server

For other platforms, you can go to this link – http://teeworlds.com/?page=downloads

WineXS: A GUI for Wine

11 Dec

Wine as we all know is an Opensource implementation of Windows API to linux .Wine can be used as a development toolkit as well as a program loader for creating a compatibilty layer b/w linux and windows applications .It can be used to run almost all Windows applications and games in linux platform. As we have already covered Wine in our previous postings, we are familiar with it but  the concern for a Wine UI still continues. And, now the wait is over.We are happy to inform our users that there exists a frontend named WineXS that gives a proper UI for Wine for installing and removing applications. Now , we dont have to rely on .dlls(wine has the ability to use .dll if available) and .exe’s . We can directly install softwares in wine using WineXS and remove them directly without going to a Windows machine. It gives user a full control over wine for installing , removing softwares, editing wine registry , file-management , installing system files , kill wine if it hangs out :P , user guide etc.

Installation Process :

For installing Wine ,please refer our Wine-post or one can also use Ubun-Student for installationof wine to your computer system.

Installing WineXS:

We at first download the file into the destination folder where we need winexs to be into say it is /home/user.

cd/home/user

sudo wget http://tsx.nl/files/winexs-1.4.2.tgz

CreatingDirectory

download
