Cairo Dock 2.4.0 Released

Cairo-Dock is a unified dock-like interface for your desktop. Besides a cool dock, it provides a taskbar, and many applets that can be placed either inside the dock or on your desktop, at your convenience ! It is highly customizable and comes with a lot of ready-to-use themes.

PPA

This PPA will install cairo dock in your Ubuntu desktops (yes ! 11.10 also).

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cairo-dock-team/ppa
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install cairo-dock

Firefox 5.0 Beta Testing on Ubuntu

Really ? Yes ! Firefox 5.0 public Beta & Firefox 6.0 Alpha are now avialable and are ready for testing purposes. We recommend you to keep them upto testing levels as they might annoy you with bugs. In this post we will throw a light on Firefox 5.0 and its key features and updates. It arrived faster than our expectations but its good. We ahve been testing it and so far only 1 bug was found which is potentially not much harmful. We would recommend you to install it only for testing purposes as it may not be good for Production machines.

Transmission 2.31 Released for Ubuntu

Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal has been released and the servers were really busy last night. We have covered different aspects of Ubuntu 11.04 and its default interface Unity so far. Now we think its time for some more eyecandy stuff for Unity. Talking of Unity, it is itself a great interface with cool looks and enhanced usability. We dont care about what people say but we believe that Unity is the ‘Next Big Thing’. People always resist to adopt something new but after hey get familiar with it, they very well accept it and yet love it. Cairo Dock 2.3 for Ubuntu

Cairo Dock – An awesome dock for Ubuntu desktops has been released. As we have already discussed in our previsou post ‘Ultimate Docks for Ubuntu‘, Cairo GLX dock is a dock manager that uses Cairo / OpenGL to render graphics (many in correlation with Compiz) with full hardware acceleration. It’s fully configurable and fully customizable and can be used as a taskbar too. You can easily add applets in the dock or as a desklet. So, its a must have for eyecandy lovers.

Install

Open the terminal and type this -

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cairo-dock-team/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cairo-dock

and done. Now close the terminal and fireup Cairo dock from Applications>System Tools>Cairo Dock and enjoy.

Unity 2D on Ubuntu

Ubuntu Unity is a desktop experience designed for efficiency of space and interaction. It maximizes usability and minimizes complexity. Everything is available just 1 click away and almost everyone enjoys working with it. But the problem is, you cant get Unity working everytime on your computer because it needs 3D effects enabled by-default. That means … those who are having low config computers, cant run Unity ? No, Unity 2D is here to the rescue. Unity 3D as we know is going to be the default interface for Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal. If you dont want to use Unity 3D or you are unable to use it, then just get yourself Unity 2D with Gnome in parallel.

SuperTuxKart 0.7.1 Released

SuperTuxKart is a Free 3D Kart racing game with many cool tracks and carts making it a real fun game to play. You can play with up to 4 friends on one PC, racing against each other or just try to beat the computer. It is written in the C++ programming language and uses OpenAL for sounds. It used the libraries SDL and for graphics until milestone 0.7, when the project switched to the Irrlicht Engine.You can do a single race against other karts, compete in one of several Grand Prix, try to beat the high score in time trials on your own, play battle mode against your friends, and more! Its a real fun game but requires concentration, hand eye coordination and timing as well.
