Introducing Google Play

Google Android Market has evolved into a new and exciting portal ‘Google Play’. The work is being done by google for about a year or so, the result seems really great. A lot of thought, vision and innovation has been put up by Google into this project making it an online platform for Movies, Apps, Games, Music and Books as well. For now, all we can say is “There’s a lot more to it than meets the eye”. The Play website quote -

“Now your favorite music, books, movies, apps, and games are all in one place that’s accessible from the Web and any Android device. Discover, buy and share like never before.”

Gnome 3.2 – Desktop Redefined

GNOME 3.2 has been released and is the first follow-up release to its ground-breaking GNOME 3.0. It has undergone a major redesign and now has the user interface for the next generation of the desktop. From 3.2, GNOME is refining the project and starting to introduce new, modern GNOME applications that will deeply integrate with the GNOME 3 experience and which are designed for modern users.

Fuduntu 14.11 Released

Fuduntu is a light weight and fun Linux distribution that earns its name by its design to fit somewhere in-between Fedora and Ubuntu. It is designed to be aesthetically pleasing, and is optimized for Netbook and other portable computers. The quarterly installation i.e Fuduntu 14.11 is now available for downloads.  As with all Fuduntu releases, this release continues the tradition of small incremental improvements.  It is important to note that existing Fuduntu users will roll up to this version through the normal update process, and do not need to download or install from this media to benefit from this release.  This release is considered the first official Fuduntu “rolling release” ISO.

Lubuntu 11.04 Final Released

Lubuntu 11.04 is a faster, more lightweight and energy saving variant of Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal using LXDE, the Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment. The lubuntu team aims to earn official endorsement from Canonical and is aimed at low specs computer users who want to have Ubuntu as their mainstream operating system. The system requirements are quite low and the package selection has been done carefully so as to match the minimal system resources and thus maintaining max performace of the system during multitasking. Where Unity interface of Ubuntu requires 3D accelaration enabled for proper operation, Lubuntu can be run on system with graphics memory of only 32MB (tested). So, get ready for a feather-lite Ubuntu experience.

Ubuntu 11.04 Beta 2 Released

Good News Everyone! Ubuntu developer team has announced the release of Ubuntu 11.04 Beta 2, the last development release of Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal. With just 2 weeks left in the Final release, it is now confirmed that Unity will be the default Desktop environment for this release. It was announced a few days back that Ubuntu 11.04 is dropping the Release Candidate and there will be a Beta again. So, here we are with Ubuntu 11.04 Beta 2 with Unity interface. This release includes loads of improvements from kernel to application end. As we have already went through ‘UserInterface Freeze’ earlier so there is no additive eyecandy but thtere are a lot of usability improvements in Unity which are about to be discussed.

Opera 11.10 ‘Barracuda’ Released

One of the most famous browsers on the internet i.e. Opera got an awesome updae today. Yes! Opera 11.10 codnamed ‘Barracuda’ has been released and is ready to download.
