The release schedule for Ubuntu 11.10 aka Oneiric Ocelot has been published on the Ubuntu wiki. The distribution will be released in the middle of October 2011.

For Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot, the Ubuntu developers decided to stick with the modified Natty release schedule. That means, to three Alpha versions and two Beta releases. Without further introduction, here is the official release schedule for Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot:

-June 30th, 2011 - Alpha 2 release
-August 4th, 2011 - Alpha 3 release
-September 1st, 2011 - Beta 1 release
-September 22nd, 2011 - Beta 2 release
-October 13th, 2011 - Final release of Ubuntu 11.10

As you can see, the work on Ubuntu 11.10 will start in one month after Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) will be released, on April 28th, 2011. For the Oneiric Ocelot, the Ubuntu development team will focus their efforts on improving Unity. Both the 2D and the OpenGL versions of Unity will be available in Ubuntu 11.10.

Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) will be the 15th release of the Ubuntu operating system. Until the first Alpha version of Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) will be made available for testing, on June 2nd, we will have the first Ubuntu Developer Summit (UDS) event for 2011, between May 9th and 13th. The event will take place in Budapest, Hungary.

And yes, 2.6.38 with latest patches will be integrated for sure. Else i will make a script to do that No worries when you are on opensource !

As my point of view This is continued awaited. Seems they may bead Oo.org and alter with Libreoffice.org. This is the accommodation for Fedora's next distro. Let us delay and watch in the case of Ubuntu. Moreover Ubuntu aggregation has issues with Gnome team, so the GUI is a catechism how Ubuntu shapes in its approaching release like this type of all think.
