ns2 Simulator On Ubuntu

ns‘ is a discrete event simulator targeted at networking research. Ns provides substantial support for simulation of TCP, routing, and multicast protocols over wired and wireless (local and satellite) networks. ns-2 is a packet-level simulator and essentially a centric discrete event scheduler to schedule the events such as packet and timer expiration. Centric event scheduler cannot accurately emulate “events handled at the same time” in real world, that is, events are handled one by one. However, this is not a serious problem in most network simulations, because the events here are often transitory. Beyond the event scheduler, ns-2 implements a variety of network components and protocols.

Elementary OS ‘Jupiter’ Review

The much awaited ElemetaryOS  0.1 – ‘Jupiter’ from the elementary-project is now live. Ubuntu 11.04 Beta also hit the ground and is ready for testing. Jupiter is an Ubuntu based open-source operating system aimed at all kinds of users who love performance and looks both. Midori is the default internet browser and is really light and fast, Dexter is an cool address book, Postler is there for managing emails & feeds and obviously ‘Elementary’ is the default desktop theme making it a worth to test the OS.

Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal First Impressions

Yo! Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal Beta 1 is now ready for download and testing. This release of Natty has gone through rigorous development and is now shining with Unity 3.6.8, latest Linux kernel, New wallpapers, Unity panel updates and much more. Ubuntu 11.04 has reached feature freeze and user-interface freeze. All the updates regarding new features and improvements in UI are almost done. There is another good news that Ubuntu Netbook Edition is not separate now, Unity for desktops is the same Unity for Netbooks, that means Unity has united Ubuntu Desktop edition and Netbook edition. So conclusion is that Unity has got something for everyone.

VLC 1.1.8 Released for Ubuntu 10.10

VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVD, Audio CD, VCD, and various streaming protocols. The latest package of VLC just got released is VLC 1.1.8 which is available for Ubuntu via PPA. Not only VLC but the Official VLC website also got an awesome new design.

Installation

Open the terminal and type the following commands in sequence :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ferramroberto/vlc
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install vlc mozilla-plugin-vlc vlc-plugin-pulse

and done.

Shotwell 0.9 Released for Ubuntu

Shotwell is the Ubuntu’s default photo manager. It lets you import photos from disk or camera, organize them in various ways, view them in full-window or fullscreen mode, and export them to share with others. It can also publish photos on various websites such as PicasaWeb, Flickr, Facebook and more. The newest version is now Shotwell 0.9 which is available for upgrade via PPA.

Installation

Use this PPA to install Shotwell. The default Shotwell installed in Ubuntu 10.10 is 0.7.2. This PPA will also help you get 0.9 version instantly.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yorba/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install shotwell

When done with it acess Shotwell from Graphics>Shotwell Photo Manager.

LibreOffice 3.3.2 Released

The Document Foundation has come up with a good news today i.e. the second micro release of Libreoffice 3.3 is out now. This is primarily a bug-fix release which is all set to improve the stability & usability of the software and sets the platform for the next release viz Libreoffice 3.4, due in mid May. If you already have LibreOffice 3.3.2 RC2, then you dont need to remove it and reinstall it all over. Just wait for the update to hit the Update Manager.

Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Final released for Ubuntu

A good news for everyone ! The much awaited Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Minefield has now been finally released. This release has come up with many new features and updates and is set to redefine the browsing experience. Wtih more than 400 Million Users, Mozilla is one of the most widely used cross-platform browser.
