CrossOver 11 brings Microsoft Office 2010 on Ubuntu

CodeWeavers released CrossOver XI software has been officially release for both Linux and Macintosh platforms, bringing initial support for Microsoft Office 2010. Based on Wine 1.4, CrossOver XI (version 11.0.0) is not only a major update to the popular application, but it also marks a step forward in its evolution, by simplifying the CrossOver product into a single one, uniting all CrossOver editions.

VMware View Open Client in Ubuntu

New devices are proliferating across all industries, with the Education sector being particularly strong. Ubuntu is the natural choice within Education for virtualization products like VMware View. Cinnamon – New GUI for Mint 12

About a week ago while roaming around, i found this very interesting post on Mint Blog that showed a very new project that is aimed at improving the Linux Desktop experience. They are putting a lot into this project to make it more stable, eyecandy and user-friendly. It was mentioned on the blog that they started patching existing alternatives such as Gnome Shell, used MATE and MGSE to provide an easier transition away from Gnome 2, but without being able to truly offer an alternative that was better than Gnome 2. Both MATE and Gnome Shell are promising projects but MATE’s ultimate goal is to replicate Gnome 2 using GTK+ and Gnome Shell doesn’t provide what is needed in a desktop. So for these reasons they’re designing a new desktop called Cinnamon, which leverages new technology and implements their vision. See for yourself -

Scribus 1.4 Released

Scribus is an Open Source program that brings professional page layout to Linux/UNIX, Mac OS X and Windows desktops with a combination of press-ready output and new approaches to page design. Underneath a modern and user-friendly interface, Scribus supports professional publishing features, such as color separations, CMYK and Spot Color support, ICC color management, and versatile PDF creation.

After a long intensive work by developers, the stable version of Scribus is out. Scribus 1.4 came with a lot of surprises for all the fans out there as it opens a whole new paradigm of desktop publishing. More than 2000 feature requests and bugs have been resolved since the development of this new version started, wow !!! It is now also available for Mac OSX 10.5 or later versions as well as a native version for OS/2 Warp 4 and eComStation.
