VirtualBox 4.0.6 for Ubuntu 11.04

A nice maintenance Update from Oracle for the thier hypervisor yesterday. VirtualBox got updated to version 4.0.6 and now Virtual box packages are available for Ubuntu 11.04 as well. It is a very useful application for testing different distros while keeping the mainstream OS intact. All you need is good hardware. This release has gone through a lot of updates and bugfixes including support for X.Org Server 1.10 final, Linux kernel 2.6.39-rc1 fixes, improved auto-run support, fix mouse support on SUSE 11 SP 1 guests, allow snapshots to be stored in the VM directory and much more.

SuperTuxKart 0.7.1 Released

SuperTuxKart is a Free 3D Kart racing game with many cool tracks and carts making it a real fun game to play. You can play with up to 4 friends on one PC, racing against each other or just try to beat the computer. It is written in the C++ programming language and uses OpenAL for sounds. It used the libraries SDL and for graphics until milestone 0.7, when the project switched to the Irrlicht Engine.You can do a single race against other karts, compete in one of several Grand Prix, try to beat the high score in time trials on your own, play battle mode against your friends, and more! Its a real fun game but requires concentration, hand eye coordination and timing as well.

No, a little wrong coz Unity is now really stable and by the end of April, you will see it as a really good DE to work with. We in this post will cover the basic aspects of Unity and howto get it working on your Ubuntu 11.04 Desktop. Laptops have integrated cards so they might pick it up directly but when it comes to desktops and external Video cards, things get messy. We are going to cover every small bit so that your Ubuntu experience remains better as it was with Gnome 2.32.

Ubuntu 11.04 Beta 2 Released

Good News Everyone! Ubuntu developer team has announced the release of Ubuntu 11.04 Beta 2, the last development release of Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal. With just 2 weeks left in the Final release, it is now confirmed that Unity will be the default Desktop environment for this release. It was announced a few days back that Ubuntu 11.04 is dropping the Release Candidate and there will be a Beta again. So, here we are with Ubuntu 11.04 Beta 2 with Unity interface. This release includes loads of improvements from kernel to application end. As we have already went through ‘UserInterface Freeze’ earlier so there is no additive eyecandy but thtere are a lot of usability improvements in Unity which are about to be discussed.

Banshee 2.0 – Perfect Media Player for Ubuntu

Banshee 2.0 has been released after a long wait and to be frank we’ve lost count of days we waited for it . Surprisingly, this Media player has replaced Rythmbox and made it to Ubuntu’s Default Media application & will come preinstalled in Ubuntu 11.04. Banshee 2.0 will be available in Ubuntu 11.04 Beta 2 onwards. So regular Natty testers will get it in an upgrade. Talking of Ubuntu 10.10 and 10.04 users, PPA is available to get it easily on your system. This release of Banshee includes UI improvements, Ubuntu One Music Store extensions, Music Library improvements, Subtitles & numerous bugfixes.

PPA Install

Banshee can be easily installed or upgraded from the following PPA. Just type the following in your terminal, type root password when prompted and you are good to go.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:banshee-team/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install banshee

Wait for it to complete. After the install or upgrade is done, fireup Banshee from Applications>Sound and Video and enjoy the latest version.

GNOME Shell takes advantage of the capabilities of modern graphics hardware and introduces innovative user interface concepts to provide a delightful and easy to use experience. The GNOME Shell is currently in active development and while many planned features are not yet implemented it is stable enough for everyday use.
